It’s normal to have a few questions prior to booking, or even after you’ve booked a trip with us.
We’ve put together a list of the most common questions we’re asked, and hope they are of use. There may even be a few questions you hadn’t thought to ask, so feel free to take some time to read through them, and learn a little more about taking an Inspirit trip!

Booking questions
Are your trip departures guaranteed to operate?
YES. We guarantee all departures, barring any extraordinary circumstances beyond our control.
Can I pay in full at the time of booking?
YES. You can pay in full right away, or any time afterward by accessing your “My bookings” page.
And don’t worry. Even if you pay in full before full payment is due, it doesn’t affect your ability to receive a refund in accordance with our cancellation terms.
How do you send out travel/booking documents?
Only by email. As a matter of environmental policy we do not send paper documents.
Is online availability guaranteed?
YES. Online availability is real-time, so if the trip shows as available, you can book it. Your place on the trip will be officially confirmed once your online payment processes.
What happens if I cancel my trip?
Booking deposits are non-refundable, but the remaining amount you have paid may be refundable depending on how soon you cancel. If you cancel more than 60 days prior to departure the rest of your trip is refundable. Between 59-30 days prior to departure you would be eligible for a 50% refund, and we’ll apply the other 50% toward a future trip (terms and conditions apply). Within 30 days, unfortunately trips are non refundable.
We recommend trip cancellation insurance to cover you for any unforeseen circumstances that would require you to cancel your trip close to departure.
Please see our booking terms and conditions page for the full cancellation policy.
Dietary questions
What if I have special dietary requirements?
That’s fine. Just let us know at the time of booking and we’ll accommodate your requirements to the best of our ability.
What is the food like?
The food is local and delicious! Our trip leaders will always suggest locally owned restaurants, and will take you to the best value-for-money places we have found. We cannot guarantee that you will love everything you try, but we’re pretty sure you’re going to find things you like.
Can I drink the water?
It depends. In certain countries, the water is safe to drink out of the tap. In other countries, you must stick to purified water. We will let you know, and we will provide you with a refillable water bottle (to reduce plastic water bottle waste) which we can fill up at hotels and restaurants along the way.
General questions
Is airfare included with my trip?
Any local flights advertised on an itinerary will be included unless otherwise stated. International airfare is not included, unless it is advertised as part of the itinerary.
Do I need specific vaccinations?
Maybe. We are not allowed to provide medical advice, so please consult with your doctor. Some countries’ entry requirements may also include certain vaccinations. Please familiarize yourself with all entry requirements before booking your trip.
Will I require an entry visa?
Depending on your nationality, you may be required to obtain a visa to enter certain counties. Please familiarize yourself with all entry requirements before booking your trip.
Do I need Travel Insurance?
YES. All travellers must have travel insurance covering personal injury and emergency medical expenses, with a minimum medical, evacuation, and repatriation coverage of $200,000 USD. Insurance must cover all dates of travel.
How physically demanding are your trips?
It depends on the trip. We assign a rating to each of our trips based on the criteria described on our physical rating page.
What kind of clothing should I pack?
It’ll depend on where you are going. Please refer to our country information and what to expect documents based on the countries you are visiting. You can find these and other important documents by accessing your booking.
What is the best kind of luggage to bring?
We recommend that you pack as lightly as possible. Backpacks are better than large suitcases, as we may be carrying our bags onto public buses where space is limited. Sometimes we may need to walk for a while over uneven surfaces to get between transportation hubs to to our hotel.
What type of transportation is used?
Our trips use a mix of private and public transportation. We may be in minibuses, inter-city coaches, local “chicken buses,” or taxis. We may also use water taxis, ferries, and local flights.
Are arrival and departure transfers included?
Generally, no. You will need to get yourself to/from the start/end hotel of the trip. However, we’re happy to help you arrange transfers if needed.
Can I jump on or off a trip?
Yes, but you would still be required to pay full price for the trip. Any costs associated with travel arrangements outside of the scheduled itinerary are your sole responsibility. If you want to jump off a trip and join again at a later date, you will be required to sign an additional release of liability form.
Can you provide a list of hotels we will be staying at?
Yes. We are happy to provide a list of hotels and relevant contact information 2 weeks prior to departure. It is possible that a last minute change may be required due to unforeseen circumstances, and if that were to happen we would notify you of the change.
Are there age restrictions on trips?
You must be 18 years old to book a trip. The minimum age for most trips is 15, when traveling with a parent or legal guardian. There are exceptions, such as family trips. We do not have a maximum age.
Can I extend my trip with additional nights?
Yes, of course. We offer multi-day trip extensions as well as additional nights at our start/end hotels.
Are we expected to tip?
Tipping is customary but completely discretionary. Please refer to our country information and what to expect documents based on the countries you are visiting for specific guidelines.
What is your LGBTQI policy?
We are very inclusive and welcoming of all people. There are of course cultural norms and local laws to take into consideration. Not every culture is as open and as accepting as we would like them to be.
Solo travelers will be paired up with fellow travelers of the same gender listed on their passport.
Group travel questions
What is the maximum group size?
Our maximum group size is 16, unless otherwise indicated. Average group size is 10 passengers. Our departures are guaranteed, so we will run a trip with a minimum of 1 person.
What are Inspirit travelers like?
Inspirit travelers are probably a lot like you. No matter your age, you are young at heart and have an adventurous spirit. You are interested in discovering new places, meeting new people, and having a ton of fun along the way.
Who are the trip leaders?
Our trip leaders are local to the region, and experts in their field. They are fun, charismatic, highly organized and dynamic individuals with a passion for travel. Trained in areas of safety, group dynamics, effective communication, and much more, our leaders are ready to deal with any challenges that might arise on a trip.
Can I make changes to an itinerary?
You can add trip extensions and extras such as additional nights, but the trip itineraries themselves are set. Of course, there are plenty of optional activities that you may wish to book locally during free days.
I’m travelling alone. Is that OK?
Yes of course. Most of our passengers are solo travelers. The best thing about traveling in a group is being able to meet new people and share experiences with others.
Rooming questions
I am a solo traveler. Will I be charged for a single room?
Not unless you specifically request a single room. We pair up travelers by gender (the gender stated on your passport). If there is an uneven number of male/female travelers you may end up with a single room, but you would not be charged any additional amount for it.
I am traveling with a friend/partner. Can we share a room?
Yes. Just give us advance notice at the time of booking and we’ll pair you up. Please note that if you are also sharing a bed, that’s fine, but we cannot guarantee that you will get one larger bed. Some rooms only have two smaller beds.
We are a group of 3 travelers. Can we share a triple room?
Let us know at the time of booking and we will try to accommodate the request. We cannot guarantee bed configurations. We do not offer triple-reduction discounts.
