Trips of a lifetime

Physical rating

Use the physical rating to help you decide if a particular trip is right for you.

Keep in mind that this is only a general guideline, and everyone must assess the listed activities for themselves to determine whether or not a trip seems appropriate. Often, only one activity may raise the overall physical rating of the trip, so if you have any doubts or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.

Normal

This is your regular everyday type of physical activity. There may be some physical aspects of the trip, but nothing that should require specific training in advance. We walk a lot on our trips. We climb hills, temples, and negotiate uneven surfaces. Paths are generally unpaved, and even pavements may feel “off road” in most places we visit. Good, sturdy footwear is required.

Moderate

Moderately active trips might include hiking, some biking, kayaking, or white-water rafting. Expect a little more physical exertion than normal. Advance training is generally not required, but we recommend that you do not arrive completely out of shape if you want to have an enjoyable trip!

Demanding

Demanding trips include prolonged hiking/trekking, multi-day jungle treks, high-altitude volcano climbs, etc. We recommend a good level of physical fitness is achieved before arriving.
